Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
We are recruiting a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to support a heavy industrial manufacturing site in the Glasgow area to cover the full production of days, back, and nights on a rotational basis. The role involves carrying out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance to ensure plant reliability, equipment availability, and safe operation across a continuous production environment.
The Role:
- Perform planned and reactive mechanical maintenance on heavy industrial plant and machinery.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults to minimise downtime and maintain production output.
- Maintain and repair equipment including conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, motors, bearings, chains, belts, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Complete preventative maintenance tasks in line with site schedules and engineering standards.
- Support continuous improvement activities to enhance reliability and reduce breakdowns.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health & safety legislation and site procedures.
- Accurately complete maintenance records, permits, and shift handover documentation.
- Work closely with production and engineering teams across rotating shifts.
- Assist with shutdowns, overhauls, and installation or upgrade projects as required.
About You:
- Time-served Mechanical Maintenance Engineer with experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and hands-on maintenance skills.
- Experience working with heavy machinery and continuous or batch process plant.
- Ability to work a rotating shift pattern (days, backs, and nights).
- Strong understanding of health & safety and safe systems of work.
- Able to work independently and under pressure in a breakdown-driven environment.
Qualifications:
- Recognised mechanical engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent).
- Additional mechanical training or certifications are advantageous.
